Garbage Collection Points To Be Cleared Twice A Day Now: Jung

Delhi Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung directed all three Municipal Commissioners as well as New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) Chairman to ensure that ‘dhalaos’, or intermediary transfer points for garbage are cleared twice a day from Tuesday.

New Delhi: Delhi Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung directed all three Municipal Commissioners as well as New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) Chairman to ensure that ‘dhalaos’, or intermediary transfer points for garbage are cleared twice a day from Tuesday.

Jung also directed them to “immediately” start working towards covering all open dhalaos in the weeks to come.

So far these dhalaos are being cleared once every day, as per municipal corporations’ claims.

The directions came as Jung held a meeting at Raj Niwas here on Monday to review issues related to cleanliness in Delhi, keeping in view the recent occurrence of cases of chikungunya, dengue and malaria.

Coming down on concessionaires responsible for cleaning dhalaos, he directed the three Municipal Commissioners and NDMC Chairman to take suitable action, including legal action, against them in case of poor performance.

At the meeting, Health Minister Satyendar Jain informed Jung that out-patient departments (OPDs) in government hospitals are running till 4 p.m. on a daily basis and that fever clinics are open on Sundays as well. He also said that emergency services for fever patients are available round the clock in all government hospitals.

Jung directed all Deputy Commissioners (Revenue) to make regular visits to private hospitals in their districts to ensure that quota for the poor is followed strictly and no poor patient is turned away.

“A report of the same is required to be submitted to the Divisional Commissioner and the Lt. Governor’s office regularly. Strict action is to be initiated if private hospitals are found faulting on strict adherence to the EWS quota,” Jung said.

He also directed all municipal corporations to intensify fogging and cleaning operations in areas which are more vulnerable and are impacted by breeding of mosquito larvae.

Jung said that in order to make the city clean, there cannot be any complacency in the government machinery or the local bodies.
