Ahead Of World Environment Day, Climate Warrior Bhumi Pednekar Urges People To Coexist With The Mother Nature

Ahead of June 5, which is marked as World Environment Day, actor Bhumi Pednekar took to her social media to create awareness about climate change and why it is necessary for each one of us to learn to coexist with mother nature

New Delhi: The food we eat, the air we breathe, the water we drink and the climate that makes our planet habitable all come from nature. According to the United Organisations, each year, marine plants produce more than a half of our atmosphere’s oxygen, and a mature tree cleans our air, absorbing 22 kilos of carbon dioxide, releasing oxygen in exchange. And still, we ignore all these benefits and mistreat nature. Keeping this perspective in mind, this year’s World Environment Day, which is marked every year on June 5, the theme is biodiversity – a concern that is both urgent and existential.

Taking this very thought of the World Environment Day forward, actor Bhumi Pednekar took to her social media to raise more and more awareness about the environment. Posting a video message, the actor said,

I want to ask you all – what is your one wish for the earth or our planet? Through my experience, I have realised that people still don’t know the problem of climate change. But it is such a huge problem that we all can’t comprehend it. Climate change is going to affect every living being on this planet. It will not favour you because you are rich, you cannot buy your way out of climate change calamities. No amount of technology can reverse the damage done to mother nature. Our planet is heating up, our water is drying, our snowcaps are melting. There is famine, floods, diseases and droughts. We are killing our biodiversity and frequency of such calamities will only going to increase in the near future.

The actor further said that it is we humans who have discounted the reality of our future, thinking it is very far away. She added,

Our climatic system will go on a war with us for many centuries until it destroys us completely if we don’t things change things today.

Kick-starting the initiative #OneWishForTheEarth, the actor asked her friends, peers from the industry and her fans to share their wish for planet earth with her and, she said,

My one wish for the earth is that every individual realises that climate change is real, we start creating awareness about it and we change our way. We learn to coexist with mother nature, we realise that this is not our planet alone.

She further added that as India celebrates World Environment Day, she will be celebrating eco-friendly and sustainable small businesses and be in conversation with the little Climate Warriors in the coming few days to make more and more people aware about environmental gains. Bhumi Pednekar signed off and said,

I look forward to creating more and more awareness about the environment and our natural surroundings by learning to coexist.

Taking Bhumi’s call ahead, actor Amitabh Bachchan shared his one wish for the earth on his social platforms. The actor said,

Climate Change is upon us, is real. Stand up, do your bit to protect Mother Nature. On World Environment Day, my #OneWishForTheEarth pledge to be climate-conscious, create awareness within families & communities. Every minute counts, be a #ClimateWarrior.

The video is part of Bhumi Pednekar’s initiative ‘Climate Warrior’ which started earlier in September 2019 to highlight the environmental crisis, climate change and initiate a dialogue with people working relentlessly to save the environment.

The actor has always been vocal about climate change and time and again, through different social media posts, has initiated a dialogue for environmental issues. When 2020 kick-started, Bhumi took to social media and urged the fellow citizens to unite and make the new year about saving the environment.

She had said,

2020 will need all of us to unite and do our bit. I will ensure I spread as much information as possible and take all the necessary steps in my day to day life to save our environment. We need to change today and the change starts with me. Let’s all become climate warriors this year.
