#SwachhIndia Cleanathon: Celebrities Come Together For The Clean India Cause

The 12-hour long NDTV-Dettol Banega Swachh India had various celebrities on board to discuss the importance of cleanliness and how they can contribute to the dream of 'Swachh Bharat'. This year the campaign widened the scope of the #Mere10Guz agenda, which urges people to clean 10 yards of their surroundings, to cover Swachh Zameen (land), Swachh Hawa (air), and Swachh Pani (Water).

Campaign Ambassador Amitabh Bachchan encouraged people to participate in #Mere10Guz initiative and said, 'everyone should participate in #Mere10Guz initiative. If every person will keep 10 yards of their surroundings clean, then the whole city will be cleaned up.'

Singer Kailash Kher gave a rousing performance of Vande Mataram and urged people to clean up their surroundings.

Speaking at the Banega Swachh India Cleanathon, actor, Anupam Kher stressed on spreading awareness at individual level. He said, 'people are becoming aware. Now if people litter from a car, passersby give dirty looks. The idea is to make people aware about the ill-effects of open defecation. We have to do this at individual levels.'

Singer Shankar Mahadevan, a proud Navi Mumbaikar appreciated the efforts of Navi Mumbaikars and implementation of #Mere10Guz. He said, '#Mere10guz is a good initiative that can boost Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.'

Actor, Raveena Tandon talked about the damage we are doing to mother Earth and said, "We are polluting in every way and that we witness after visarjan, every year. We have to make people realise that there's a better way to manage waste."

Jaya Bachchan, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha stressed on the issue of manual scavenging and how we are failing to provide basic safety equipment to those cleaning sewers.

Actor John Abraham also joined the cleanathon and talked about how nuclear energy could be a less polluting alternative for the country.

Singer Shaan presented his rendition of the popular bhajan,Vaishnava Jana To on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti which was observed as Rashtriya Swachhta Diwas during the NDTV-Dettol Banega Swachh India Cleanathon.

"Only way we can hope to become a ?Swachh Bharat' is by proper waste management. Single use plastic should be banned to curb plastic menace in our country", said actor, Dia Mirza.

Alia Bhatt also joined the NDTV-Dettol Banega Swachh India Cleanathon and talked about how awareness can lead to change and make people realise what need to be done to fulfill the dream of 'Swachh India'.
