Mann Ki Baat: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Says India Delighted To Host World Environment Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation through his monthly radio address Mann Ki Baat on Sunday, and talked about World Environment Day celebrations for which India is the host country

Mann Ki Baat: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Says India Is Delighted To Host This Year’s World Environment Day

New Delhi: Addressing the nation on the 44th edition of Mann ki Baat, a monthly radio programme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke on the World Environment Day, on June 5 this year. “India is delighted to be a global host for this year’s World Environment Day celebrations. It is a big achievement for all of us. It is also an acknowledgment as well as recognition of India’s growing leadership in the direction of tackling climate change,” PM Modi said.

Highlighting the theme of this year’s celebrations and asking people to do their bit for the environment, PM Modi added,

This year’s theme is ‘Beat Plastic Pollution.’ My appeal to everyone, understand the importance of the day, understand the theme, say no to the use of plastic and save our planet from ill-effects of plastic pollution. We all should ensure that we do not use low-grade polythene and low-grade plastics and try to curb the negative impact of plastic pollution on our environment, on our wildlife and our health.

PM Modi also talked about the World Environment Day initiatives taken by the government. He also mentioned the launch of a special website on the World Environment Day.

We all should visit the World Environment Day website ‘wed-India 2018’ and try to imbibe and inculcate the many interesting suggestions given there into our everyday life.

Asking people to go green, PM Modi said,

On this environment day, let all of us give it a good thought as to what can we do to make our planet cleaner and greener? How can we progress in this direction? What innovative things can we do?

Along with World Environment Day message, PM Narendra Modi also congratulated a group from the Border Security Force who scaled the Everest and while returning removed loads of trash from the mountain. He said,

This deed is commendable; it displays their commitment towards cleanliness and the environment. I salute the team for their swachh efforts.

To make this year’s World Environment Day celebrations historic, the government has taken huge steps. Currently, all the ministries have been asked to go plastic-free, students have been urged not to carry any form of single-use plastic water bottles, cups, folders, plates, water jugs, trays or pen stands. Moreover, in 19 states of the country, the government has undertaken the clean-up of 24 beaches and 24 river stretches.
