After Two COVID-19 Patients Test Negative, Tripura Chief Minister Declares The State As Coronavirus Free

New Delhi: “The second corona patient of Tripura has been found NEGATIVE after consecutive tests. Hence our state has become Corona free”, tweeted Biplab Kumar Deb, Chief Minister of Tripura on Thursday (April 23) while requesting everyone to practise social distancing and follow government guidelines. Elated Chief Minister further thanked all the doctors, healthcare staff, frontline warriors and citizens for freeing Tripura from the novel coronavirus causing COVID-19. The Chief Minister also shared a two minute long video message, addressing the long battle against COVID-19.

In his video message, CM Deb noted the efforts and dedication of the citizens of Tripura and asked to follow the lockdown. He said,

On the behalf of the citizens of Tripura, I would like to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for showing us the right path. People from all walks of life followed the measures including the lockdown stated by PM Modi to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Further stating that this win against COVID-19 is not final, CM Deb said,

I’m happy that we have won the battle against COVID-19 once but this is not the ultimate victory and to keep this victory going we have to follow the lockdown imposed till May 3.

Tripura had two positive cases of coronavirus – one in Gomati district and other in North Tripura. According to the news agency PTI, Tripura’s first COVID-19 patient was a woman from Udaipur town in Gomati district, who returned from Guwahati right before lockdown, and was tested positive for the coronavirus infection on April 6. The woman recovered and was released from isolation on April 16. The second individual to get COVID-19 was a Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawan.

As on April 27, Tripura has tested 4,453 samples of which only two had tested positive. Apart from this, while 104 coronavirus suspects are under facility surveillance, 132 have been placed under home quarantine.
