Biodegradable Debit Or Credit Cards Launched By This Bank To Check Plastic Pollution That Is Choking The Planet

New Delhi: In a bid to reduce some of the 56 lakh tonnes of plastic waste, of which almost 40% makes to our landfill untreated, the country’s third-largest private bank, the Axis Bank has taken an initiative and launched biodegradable cards. These credit and debit are first of its kind in India to advocate better eco-friendly practices in the country.

Make Way For Biodegradable Cards

The cards have been introduced under the gift card segment and are made of Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol (PETG) that is derived from polyester. The look and feel of the cards are same as the regular plastic credit card, but, has a positive impact on the environment. These eco-friendly cards have the ability to break down completely and quickly into the raw materials of nature and disappear into the environment, unlike the regular plastic cards. Talking about more benefits, these cards do not release carbon, methane or any other harmful pollutants.

Consumers as well as institutions are growing conscious of the ecological footprint of business activities and are looking for environmentally friendly solutions. The card made of biodegradable plastic will help spread awareness about the benefits of biodegradable products, said Sangram Singh, Head For Payments Business in Axis Bank.

The Need Of The Hour

As a conscious citizen, we should start asking ourselves a simple question – “How do I reduce the garbage I generate?” and aim for an action to reduce the waste generation. The need of the hour is to understand that our planet is in big danger because of the growing waste, together we should aim to crack the waste management game. This is an easy way to contribute towards saving our already pressured planet.
