They Call Themselves ‘Bunch Of Swachh Fools’ And Their Motto Is To Make Raipur 100% Clean
Meet the swachh crusadors, who work every Sunday in Raipur and fix one dirty spot. The ultimate mission is to make the city 100% clean
Call them spot-fixers of Raipur or call them ‘No. 1 fans’ of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, there is no dirty area in the city which cannot be fixed by this ‘Bunch of Swachh Fools’ brigade. The group comprises students, young businessmen, and elders who have a simple swachh motto in life – Look out for dirty patches in the city and clean them. Every Sunday, this Swachh squad which has some 100 active members come together to contribute their time and effort in order to clean up one dirty spot at a time.
We started this group in November 2014 after Prime Minister Narendra Modi started the campaign for cleanliness in our country. Initially, this group was started by me and 6 other batchmates and look today we have some 100 active swachh members who are doing their bit towards making Raipur 100% clean, says Satish Bhuwalka, Co-founder of Bunch Of Fools.
From unattended dirty spots to a garbage dump, a polluted lake, this bunch of fools is cleaning anything and everything. Till date, the group has cleaned around 147 spots in 135 Sundays.
Explaining the efforts of the group, Satish added, we have a specific RnD team, which goes out in the city every Monday in search of a dirty spot, by Wednesday, the team submits the report and transfer work to the creative team, who then comes out with a solution on how to clean up that area. Saturday, our awareness team goes to that respective spot, asks the local people about the problems, goes to the local bodies of the area and tries to make them aware. We also have a special ‘nukad-natak’ team which goes out and spreads awareness about why one should opt for cleaning up their respective areas.
The agenda of these clean-up drives is not only to make the city completely swachh but also to spread a message of do-the-clean-up-yourself.
When PM Modi can pick up broom for a clean India, then why can’t we opt for the same, added Satish.
The group every Sunday uploads their Swachh contribution towards the nation on their social platforms in the hope that their message spreads just not in Raipur but across India.
Apart from the clean-up drives carried out by the group, there is also a ‘Swachh Van’ operated by them which is solely used for the purpose of cleaning a dirty area. The bunch of fools have also created an app in which they provide stories of the clean-up activities and also educate other cities across India on how with some simple methods they can keep their nearby areas clean and hygienic.
