New Delhi: Trade and industry body PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Monday hosted an inter-school play competition to kick-start the Swachh Paryavaran campaign in which 20 schools of Delhi-NCR participated.

The school children were challenged to interpret the theme “Swachh Hawa Shudh Jal, Swastha Rahega Hamara Kal” (Clean air, pure water will ensure healthier tomorrow) into intricate and interesting screenplays.

Mata Jai Kaur Public School bagged the first position, followed by Delhi Public School, Gurugram, and Salwan Public School on second and third places, respectively.

The plays presented by the young students were extremely informative and exhibited a sense of commitment. They emphasised on imparting the adverse effects and conditions of the environment we are living in and the consequences of our inactions, the organisers said.

On the occasion, Padma Vibhushan Sonal Mansingh said: “Through my various dance and music presentations, I have strived and made my best efforts to raise awareness about clean environment. Through this campaign and especially the inter-school plays that our young children have showcased I have given a powerful message to the society for better environment.”

Social activist and actress Shivani Wazir Pasrich added, “Working with the children, while being fun and rewarding, is tricky too. We can’t make it too monotonous so we tried to enable a hygiene conscious citizenry through a fun catchy song. Another major issue of concern is apathy towards our forests.”

G.S Singhvi, Chairman of the Swachh Paryavaran Campaign by PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry said this campaign will inspire young minds to be future ambassador for “Mission Clean Environment”.
