Schedule For Worli Fort Clean-Up In Mumbai

The 24-hour cleanup is scheduled for July 14 to July 15, starting 8 am and more than 1000 volunteers are expected to participate along with Yuva Sena Chief Aaditya Thackeray. Sharing details on how much garbage and trash is expected to be removed from there, Chinu Kwatra adds,

We expect to remove more than 50 tonnes of waste from Worli Fort with the coming clean-up. The problem at Worli Fort is that there is a lot of debris kind of garbage, which then gets mixed with plastic waste, gets hard to clean. But, the beach warriors and ‘Save The Beach’ campaign volunteers will do their best.

Beach Warrior Chinu Kwatra’s Journey So Far

The waste warrior has helped clean up more than 300 tonnes of waste from Dadar beach

Back in 2017, after getting inspired from Versova Beach clean-up led by lawyer turned activist Afroz Shah, Chinu Kwatra started his crusade to do his bit for the environment by undertaking a continuous clean-up at Mumbai’s Dadar beach.

One sight that always broke my heart was the scene of the beach surrounded by piles of garbage. Last year, in the month of August, I decided to undertake the clean-up at Dadar and since then there has been no looking back. With 2 other volunteers, I started a social campaign – Save The Beach, added Chinu Kwatra.

Till now, because of continuous efforts by Chinu, more than 300 tonnes of waste from Dadar beach has been cleaned. The beach champion has recently turned to other dirty spots in the city such as Juhu beach, worli fort, to name a few.

From last week, we have also started a weekly clean-up at Juhu beach, that will continue, and from the next week, we will shift our focus to Worli fort. In the future, my plan is to cover all the beaches of Mumbai and transform them completely, said Chinu Kwatra.

Along with beach clean-ups, Chinu is also devoting his time to educating tribal women about menstrual hygiene management. Moreover, the warrior is also spearheading the Roti Ghar initiative that aims to provide a one-time meal to over 100 underprivileged children and women at the dumping ground in Thane, Mumbai every single day.

Chinu signs off with a message,

Everyone can do something or the other for this planet, one just needs to start taking the right steps. The crisis our environment is battling with currently is because of us, let us take the ownership and save the planet from drowning.
