Enhance The Capacity Of Construction And Demolition Plant, Waste-To-Energy Units In East Delhi: Lieutenant Governor

New Delhi: Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on July 8 suggested to the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) to explore the possibility of enhancing the capacity of the construction and demolition (C&D) plant at Shahstri Park and the Ghazipur waste-to-energy unit in east Delhi.

He made the suggestion during an inspection visit to the C&D plant, which, according to the EDMC, “recovers and recycles about 95 per cent of waste” it receives.

The commissioner of the EDMC, Mohanjeet Singh, said it is a public-private-partnership project and the entire design, conceptualisation and execution has been undertaken by the concessionaire to operate the plant for a 15-year period.

In order to comprehensively manage the waste generated in east Delhi, it was desired by the Lieutenant Governor that the EDMC must explore the possibility of enhancing the capacity of the Shastri Park C&D plant as well as the Ghazipur waste-to-energy plant and assured all support from his side, the Raj Niwas said in a statement.

The latest wet-processing technology used in the plant has been adopted to suit the C&D waste generated after learning the lessons from a similar facility at Burari in north Delhi. It minimises process residues as well as dust and noise pollution, it said.

Lieutenant Governor Baijal was apprised that the facility gets mixed waste from 15 designated sites in east Delhi as well as on demand.

Till date, the C&D plant has processed 2 lakh tonnes of waste, thus substantially reducing the burden on landfill or dumping sites in the city, the statement said.
