Ensure Cleanliness Of Drains At Maharani Bagh: National Green Tribunal Directs Delhi Authorities
As per a plea filed by an NGO, Senior Citizens the drains near Maharani Bagh are turning into breeding grounds for mosquitoes as the authorities have turned a ‘blind eye’ towards the unhygienic condition prevailing in the area
New Delhi: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the Delhi government and the civic bodies to ensure that the drains at a posh Southeast Delhi locality are properly cleaned and made obstruction-free. A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar sought responses of from the AAP government, South Delhi Municipal Corporation and the Delhi Development Authority on the issue. The tribunal was hearing a plea filed by NGO Senior Citizens Service Forum seeking immediate cleaning of drains at the Maharani Bagh area.
We have heard the counsel appearing for the respective respondents. The counsel submits that they would place the matter before competent authority for issuance of appropriate directions in relation to cleaning of drains in Maharani Bagh in relation to which the complaint relates.
Therefore, we dispose of this application with direction to all the three respondents to ensure that the drains at Maharani Bagh are cleaned without any further delay, the bench, also comprising Justice Jawad Rahim, said.
The plea had alleged that the authorities have turned a “blind eye” towards the pathetic conditions due to of the dirty drains which have become a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
