Fighting COVID-19: Punjab Chief Minister Launches One Month Awareness Drive As Part Of Mission Fateh

New Delhi: In April and early May, Punjab had a rough time and saw a huge spike in the cases of Novel Coronavirus. In the first three days of May, 623 cases of COVID-19 were reported. If we compare the data, on May 1, Punjab reported 105 new positive cases of COVID-19 whereas, on June 1, 38 COVID-19 positive cases were reported. Over time, Punjab has shown drastic improvement and is considered one of the best states when it comes to controlling the spread of Novel Coronavirus. Keeping up with its fight against the COVID-19, on Monday (June 1) Chief Minister of Punjab Captain Amarinder Singh, launched a one month awareness campaign as part of the ‘Mission Fateh’. The aim of the campaign is to broaden the ambit of Mission Fateh and involve the people of Punjab in a fight against COVID-19 and make it a battle of the people, by the people and for the people. The aim of the Mission Fateh is on the same lines – fighting COVID-19 together.

Mission Fateh symbolises the resolve of the people of Punjab to halt the spread of the Novel Coronavirus through discipline, cooperation and compassion. Discipline in observing all precautions, cooperation with the state government by faithfully abiding by the lockdown restrictions and compassion towards the poor by helping them and giving them aid. It is the true reflection of the Punjabi spirit that can overcome all odds to emerge victorious, reads CM’s message in the official document.

In order to create awareness about the COVID-19 especially at a time when a lockdown is released but the fight against Coronavirus is still on, a one-month long awareness drive has been initiated. In the month of June, the state government will create awareness about 11 things:

1. Wearing masks

2. Washing hands

3. Maintaining social distancing

4. Taking care of the elderly

5. Remaining vigilant about entry of outsiders in the locality

6. Use of COVA App to track patients of the virus and maintaining a safe distance from them

7. Importance of home quarantine

8. Symptoms of the flu and action thereafter

9. Restrictions during Lockdown 5.0 and penalties /fines in case of violations

10. Community mobilisation to jointly fight against the pandemic

11. Emphasising that the threat of the virus has not diminished, rather it has become more menacing

For the same, three committees – state-level campaign committee, state-level implementation committee and district level implementation committee has been constituted. These committees will undertake numerous awareness activities including putting up hoardings; giving advertisements in newspaper and TV; reaching out to the citizens through IVRS and SMS service and urging them to take all precautions; sharing experiences of people who have recovered from the Coronavirus in order to sensitise them about how the virus spreads; foot soldiers such as Sarpanches, Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, and others will be mobilised to create mass awareness. Also, a special campaign song has been produced to give a boost to the state government’s initiative and create awareness.

According to the official press release, various NGOs (non-governmental organisations), charitable institutions and social organisations will be encouraged to undertake similar drives within their localities.

All the measures are taken and ramped up because the government believes that with the restrictions being released gradually, the risk of the spread of virus increases in case adequate precautions are not undertaken by the people as they had been doing in the past.

It is, therefore, very important to continuously remind the people and to encourage the conscientious amongst them to be even more careful in the coming days and to spread this message in the neighbourhood so that the state can unitedly halt the onslaught of the virus, reads the official document.

Mission Fateh clearly states that the fight against the virus can only be won by the people and not by the governments. Therefore, the government is leaving no stone unturned to educate the citizens and ensure they remain vigilant at all times.
