According to Euromonitor International’s global packaging trends report, more than 480 billion plastic drinking bottles were sold in 2016 across the world as opposed to 300 billion sold in 2004. By 2021, this figure will rise to a whopping 583.3 billion. Banning plastic, adopting eco-friendly alternatives to plastic may tackle the problem to some extent, but what about the plastic already in use? About 15,000 tonnes of plastic waste is produced in India, of which about 9,000 tonnes is recycled. The remaining plastic waste still exists in some form, cluttering landfills and clogging drains. 1. Feed The Birds In A Style

Are you someone who likes feeding birds? If yes, then take out those discarded plastic bottles, a couple of spoons, a twine and make your own bird feeder.
How To Make It – Make four holes in a bottle and pass spoons through them. Fill the bottle with bajra and hang it in your balcony or on some tree. Refill the bottle as and when required.

2. Make Your Own Hanging Garden

These days, houses hardly have any space to have one’s own garden. But with hanging plants, you can bring greenery to your house and at the same time, make use of discarded plastic bottles. Here’s how.

Take a thick and durable plastic bottle so that it can handle the weight of soil, plant and water. Cut a section of the bottle to make space for soil and plant to go inside the bottle. Make four holes on each end of the bottle, two on the top and two on the bottom and pass a rope through it. Tie the rope and hang the bottle anywhere. Any number of bottles can be hung against a wall or a fence. You can grow small leafy vegetables as well.

3. Redesign Boring Corners With DIY Vase

It’s time you take out all those cold drink bottles you have emptied at numerous parties and show your creative skills. Plastic bottles, old CDs and some glue will help you in making fine-looking vase. All you need to do is, cut the bottle into two parts, paint it, and decorate it the way you like and it’s ready. Also, the upper half of the bottle needs to be pasted on a CD so that it can stand properly.

4. Light Up Your House Differently

Ditch those conventional ways of putting up lights on Diwali, Christmas and all the other occasions. Use empty plastic bottles, containers and give them a rich new look by putting some fairy lights in them. You can also light up your bedroom by keeping these bottles on your bedside table. These bottles with fairy lights in them can come handy during a house party, as well.

5. An Eccentric Solution To Organise Your Shoes

Take a big cold drink bottle and cut it from the neck. Keep these bottles turned organiser in your wardrobe with shoes in them and you are good to go. One bottle is required for one pair of footwear, so make as many you need.
