New Delhi: “Even if you are a conscious citizen of the country and are throwing plastic waste into the dustbin, this may still not be enough to make India free from plastic waste. Do you know why? From bins, plastic waste reaches our landfills and continues to stay on the planet for another 1000 years. Thereby harming our soil, air and water bodies severally,” says singer Sonu Nigam as he appealed citizens to do more towards the cause of Swachh India through a video message that has been released by the centre recently.

Sonu Nigam adds,

The only way to deal with plastic waste is to attack it in four ways by making sure you are refusing, reducing, reusing or recycling the plastic waste.

This is not the first time, the singer has come forward and lent his support towards the cause of Swachh Bharat Mission. Last year, during Rashtriya Swachhata Diwas on October 2, the singer joined NDTV’s 12-Hour televised Cleanathon held in Mumbai and said,

Today, where India is when it comes to its cleanliness quotient it is because of the swachhta initiatives taken by the government, different organisations and campaigns like Banega Swachh India. But, I do feel the problem lies in our education and awareness system as still 99 per cent of the Indians don’t know how to use a commode or a toilet properly and that is the reason behind unclean public toilets. Swachhta starts with these little things, if people are made aware about it more, I am certain, our country will become clean.
