Lucknow’s Pink Gift To Women Ahead Of March 8, Soon The City Will Have Modern Toilets

New Delhi: To give Swachh Bharat Abhiyan a boost and give its women a significant gift ahead of International Women’s Day, the district administration and Nagar Nigam has decided to jointly install modern ‘pink’ toilets – exclusively for women of the city. These toilets will have round-the-clock water supply, a sanitary napkin dispensing machine along with portable incinerators for disposing of sanitary napkins and tissue papers. Moreover, a separate place breastfeeding area for babies. Additional Municipal Commissioner PK Srivastava said,

These pink toilets are being designed especially for women of the city. They will be different from the usual public toilets and will be equipped with modern facilities. The plan is to set around 40 toilets in the first phase by the next financial year and then slowly increase the number of Pink Toilets.

This move has been taken by the city after the recent government order, in which municipal corporations and district administrations were instructed to ensure the installation of pink toilets.

Mr Srivastava added,

The installation of the Pink Toilets in the city will take the Swachh Lucknow mission to greater heights. We will ensure the installation of these toilets as soon as possible. Currently, efforts are also being taken to ensure that these toilets get managed by ladies staffers.

The swachh officials for now have identified populated localities and market places in the city for the installation of Pink Toilets in the first phase. Some of localities that have been finalised are — Hazratganj crossing, Aminabad, Qaiserbagh, 1090 crossing, Janpath market, Alambagh, Chandernagar, to name a few.

In Swachh Survekshan 2017, Lucknow ranked 269 out of 434 cities, this year the city is making all the efforts to improve its rank drastically, Pink Toilets being one such step.

Speaking about getting the open defecation free tag, the deadline for the city has been set for October 2, 2018 by Chief Minister Adityanath Yogi.
