Madras High Court Judges Take Up Brooms And Lead Campus Clean Up

Four judges of the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court took up broom sticks and led a clean up drive around the court campus on Saturday.

Thanjavur: Four judges of the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court took up broom sticks and led a clean up drive around the court campus on Saturday.

Justices S Nagamuthu, S Vimala, S S Sundar and V Bharathidasan led a day long cleaning up activity around the court premises in which around five hundred volunteers participated including lawyers, officials, NGOs and Corporation workers.

The effort did transform the High Court campus as conservancy workers transported around 90 tractor loads of trash that the volunteers had collected.

The judges also ordered a ban on use of plastics on court campus and administered an oath to keep surroundings clean.

Justice S Nagamuthu said, “We believe this will encourage many in our communities, towns and cities to involve themselves to clean their surroundings to make India clean.”

The judges have decided to continue this clean up campaign and do a similar drive at the Madurai bus stand, later.
