Nagaland’s ‘Swachh’ Cop Is A Real Life Inspiration
For a month now, 28-year old Neingupe Maru, has been on a cleanup mission in Pfutsero in Nagaland, 70 KM away from capital Kohima. This constable, who entered into the police a year ago, collects garbage everyday thrown at various places of the town and takes it to the dump yard. He started off after the garbage started piling up as the municipal body was dissolved. With no sign of fresh polls due to opposition from several Naga tribes – Maru volunteered to do the job.
I heard about the nationwide cleanliness drive and wanted to do my bit. So when we faced this crisis in our town, I thought I must take a humble effort and I am happy everyone supported me Neingupe Maru, Nagaland Police Constable turned Swachh Bharat Campaigner told NDTV.
Inspired by the Prime Minister’s Swachh Bharat campaign, Maru decided to modify his own Maruti van into a mini dumper. Now he has become an inspiration for many others.
