New Delhi: ‘Everyday we do things for ourselves, just a little bit of awareness and consciousness in keeping our surroundings clean will enable us to live in a healthy environment and we all know health is everything,’ says the 29-year-old actor Anushka Sharma as she hit Versova Beach on Friday to do her bit towards Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The actor has been invited by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his Swachhata Hi Seva to mark three years of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.  Anushka along with her family and friends initiated a cleanliness drive at Mumbai’s Versova beach.

Anushka Sharma shared her swachh work with the world through Instagram and Twitter and said “The pleasure I felt in cleaning the beach is indescribable.”

She also quoted Mahatma Gandhi, “An ounce of practice is worth more than tons of preaching,” and urged people to do their bit to keep the environment Swachh.

Her efforts also got a thumbs up from PM Modi on Twitter, “Well Done #SwachhBharat #SwachhataHiSeva.”

Anushka Sharma is not alone in her Swachh efforts, other B-town celebrities like Rajinikanth, Anil Kappor, Riteish Deshmukh and Baahubali actor Prabhas, among several other well known personalities like Sachin Tendulkar have come aboard Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachhata Hi Seva mission in order to spread the message of cleanliness.

Apart from celebrities, Government’s ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva campaign has brought people from different walks of life together to fight against the evils of open defecation, garbage dumping and littering. During the 15-day campaign India crossed another Swachh landmark, and crossed 200 districts that are free from age-old practice of open defecation. The Swachhata Hi Seva campaign will hit its culminate on October 2, when many states, districts, villages are set to be declared 100% open defecation free.
