Swachh Survekshan 2017: How Twitter Is Congratulating The Cleanest City Of India – Indore

The government has surveyed 434 cities and towns so as to measure the progress of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and to take stock of on ground activities

The Swachh Survekshan 2017, which was released today saw a lot of buzz on twitter with political leaders and ordinary people reacting to the newly adjudged cleanest cities of India. Madhya Pradesh walked away with the top honours at this year’s survey, with Indore being adjudged the number 1 clean city in India and Bhopal winning the number 2 spot. Gujarat has maximum of 12 cities among top 50 cleanest cities of India followed by Madhya Pradesh which has 11 cities and Andhra Pradesh which has 8 cities. The maximum number of dirtiest cities in India are from Uttar Pradesh. Here’s how Twitter celebrated India’s Swachh Report Card:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called it the most extensive stock take of cleanliness in India’s cities –

Complimenting all the award winners of Swachh Survekshan 2017 for their Swachh efforts, Venkaiah Naidu, Union Minister for Urban Development, said, “Swachh Bharat is not a day’s work. It should be treated as a regular feature of our daily life.”

In last years’ Swachh Survekshan Survey cities of Madhya Pradesh like Bhopal, Indore and Gwalior were ranked as cities that have potential to lead the pack. And, look today Indore has won a crown of India’s Cleanest City. Delighted by the state’s performance, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan congratulated the people of the state.

Cities in Gujarat have shown remarkable improvement compared to their performance last year. Surat from the state made it among the Top 5 clean cities at Rank 4.

Appreciating the performance of Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed his happiness over two cities from the state making it among the Top 10 clean cities of India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency, Varanasi, was the lone exception in an otherwise disappointing performance by Uttar Pradesh. It was at 418 in the previous survey and moved up to Rank 32 this year.

Apart from political leaders, this is how some of the citizens reacted to the Swachh Rankings on twitter.

Till now, under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan more than 1,80,000 villages, 130 districts and three states – Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh and Kerala have been declared Open Defecation Free. With a goal to make India clean and open defecation free by 2019, the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan has so far successfully constructed more than 3 crore toilets. The target is to construct around 11.1 crore number of toilets by 2019.
