#Unite2FightCorona: India’s Coronavirus Fight Is People Driven, Says Prime Minister Narendra Modi

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, October 8, launched a public awareness drive, as part of India’s fight against COVID-19. PM Modi, several Ministers from his government and Bollywood celebs asked people to follow precautions like wearing masks and maintaining social distancing to defeat the coronavirus pandemic. The start of this ‘jan andolan’ (mass movement) campaign comes in view of upcoming festivals, winter season and opening up of the economy, as a lack of adherence to recommended precautions can increase cases of the infection.

PM Modi on Twitter said that India’s coronavirus fight is people-driven.

India’s COVID-19 fight is people driven and gets great strength from our COVID warriors. Our collective efforts have helped saved many lives. We have to continue the momentum and protect our citizens from the virus. #Unite2FightCorona

Prime Minister Modi also tweeted some points to remember.

Home Minister Amit Shah said a global pandemic like COVID-19 can be fought only when all countrymen come together. Using the hashtag ‘Unite2FightCorona’, the Home Minister urged people to join the mass awareness campaign launched by PM Modi and play a key role in making India free of this pandemic.

Furthermore, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar echoed similar views, saying these precautions are our “security shield” as the country unlocks and marches towards becoming ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’.

Mr Javadekar asked people to keep following ‘COVID-appropriate behaviour’.

Bollywood too, joined in the awareness campaign, as several celebrities tweeted with the hashtag #Unite2FightCorona and urged countrymen to follow social distancing protocols to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Kangana Ranaut urged people to “pledge” to unite and fight in the testing times of the pandemic.

The worldwide crisis of Corona may have many setbacks but it has the possibility of bringing us together like never before, let’s pledge to, she tweeted.

Actors Shraddha Kapoor and Varun Dhawan too asked people to maintain social distance.

Actor Parineeti Chopra also took to the platform to share “3 mantras to make India safe.”

Actor Salman Khan too supported the campaign and asked his fans to maintain social distancing, wear masks to keep their hands sanitised.

NDTV – Dettol Banega Swasth India campaign is an extension of the five-year-old Banega Swachh India initiative helmed by Campaign Ambassador Amitabh Bachchan. It aims to spread awareness about critical health issues facing the country. In wake of the current COVID-19 pandemic, the need for WASH (WaterSanitation and Hygiene) is reaffirmed as handwashing is one of the ways to prevent Coronavirus infection and other diseases. The campaign highlights the importance of nutrition and healthcare for women and children to prevent maternal and child mortality, fight malnutrition, stunting, wasting, anaemia and disease prevention through vaccines. Importance of programmes like Public Distribution System (PDS), Mid-day Meal Scheme, POSHAN Abhiyan and the role of Aganwadis and ASHA workers are also covered. Only a Swachh or clean India where toilets are used and open defecation free (ODF) status achieved as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014, can eradicate diseases like diahorrea and become a Swasth or healthy India. The campaign will continue to cover issues like air pollutionwaste managementplastic banmanual scavenging and sanitation workers and menstrual hygiene.
