New Delhi: Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar praised NDTV-Dettol Banega Swasth India campaign, which is India’s largest and longest running televised public health campaign and its annual tradition of hosting the 12-hour televised Telethon. The aim of the campaign has been to improve public awareness on crucial issues related to health. Sharing a letter of appreciation, the Vice President said,
I am pleased to know that NDTV-Dettol has launched another edition of its annual event, ‘Banega Swasth India’. I heartily compliment NDTV-Dettol for this sublime annual initiative that has been striving to improve public awareness on crucial issues related to health.
In the letter he further said that India, with the world’s largest youth population, is poised to become the third largest economy in the world in the coming decade and therefore initiatives like Banega Swasth India are crucial. He said,
A healthy and skilled workforce is prerequisite for such transformative growth. Therefore, initiatives like ‘Banega Swasth India’ are crucial in creating awareness and setting the policy discourse among all stakeholders in the field.
Highlighting the campaigns and initiatives government has undertaken to build a Swasth and healthier India, in the letter, Mr Dhankhar added,
The Government, on its part has taken several laudable initiatives towards universal ‘swasthya adhikar’ for all citizens including its flagship scheme, Ayushman Bharat, which has brought ‘health assurance’ to millions of ‘poor families’. While advancing people’s access to quality tertiary care, simple grassroot level interventions such as Swachh Bharat Mission, also go a long way in reducing our disease burden and increasing productivity. The agile and multi-pronged approach adopted by India to combat COVID-I9 has been appreciated world over. With more than 278 crore doses already administered, the country has successfully implemented world’s largest free Covid vaccination program in record time.
Mr Dhankhar underlined the fact that healthcare has been made a national priority. He added,
Concerted government interventions over last few years have made healthcare a national priority and led to a sustained improvement in various health indices such as child mortality rates, immunisation coverage, institutional deliveries amongst others.
He urged people to take required steps and help India become swasth. He said,
Going forward, we must also focus our attention on containing the increasing incidents of Non-Communicable Diseases by creating greater awareness among people on these and other emerging ‘lifestyle diseases’. My best wishes to the management, staff and viewers of NDTV-Dettol for this initiative, I wish the program all success. Let us persevere together for the ideals of ‘Swasthya Lakshya, Swasthya Adhikar.’
