World Environment Day 2018: Ministers And Politicians Spread The Message Of #BeatPlasticPollution
With the message of #BeatPlasticPollution, ministers and politicians urged people to come together and work for a cleaner and greener environment
New Delhi: “Together, let us ensure that our future generations live in a clean and green planet, in harmony with nature”, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of the World Environment Day as he highlighted the importance of environment. The Prime Minister took it to social media and shared a video through which he focused on how development and environment can coexist together. He said, “This year’s theme is ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’. I appeal to you that keeping in mind the value and importance of the theme, we all should ensure that we don’t use polythene and low grade plastic.”

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu too urged people to join the campaign and end the use of single-use plastic and protect the environment. He further said, “From times immemorial, Indians believed in living with nature as encapsulated in ‘Vruksho Rakshathi Rakshithaha’. Let us get back to our roots and preserve our culture and nature. All of us have a responsibility to handover a greener and cleaner planet for our future generations.”

Union Environment Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan encouraged people to refuse plastic because it chokes the Earth and it is dangerous for animals and marine life. He further said, if you can’t reuse it, refuse.

Piyush Goyal, Minister for Railways and Coal, shared the railways way to Beat Plastic Pollution. For a greener planet, railways has started using fully biodegradable packages. Sharing the news, the minister took it to twitter and said, “A Small Step to Beat Plastic Pollution: On #WorldEnvironmentDay, Indian Railways has started using fully biodegradable packages in 4 Shatabadi and 4 Rajadhani trains from Delhi, contributing towards a greener planet.”

Sharing the statistics and the grim reality on the plastic waste generated in India, every day, Minister for Human Resource Development, Prakash Javadekar, tweeted, “15,000 tonnes of plastic waste is generated every day, 9,000 tonnes is collected and recycled, but 6,000 tonnes of plastic waste is not collected and remain littered. #BeatPlasticPollution #WorldEnvironmentDay.”

Joining the bandwagon, B. S. Yeddyurappa, former Chief Minister of Karanataka, said, this year’s theme is a call to action for all of us to join hands and combat the issue of plastic pollution.

Following the same suit, Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister of West Bengal, too advocated for a plastic free India and asked people to make every day the Word Environment Day. Amidst this, Trivendra S Rawat, Chief Minister of Uttrakhand, shared the news of Chamoli Police that has converted a dump yard into a herbal garden. He said, “The herbal garden started last year on a dump yard, saw production of Kesar for the first time- this herbal garden has almost 50 varieties of precious herbs.”

Congress MP Jyotiraditya Scindia shared UN Environment’s post stating the amount of plastic we generate annually and how it is managed. He said how pivotal it is to take responsibility and some actions to #BeatPlasticPollution.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, wished World Environment Day by sharing Andhra Pradesh’s plan to become India’s first 100 per cent natural farming state. In his tweet, he talked about Zero-Budget Natural Farming contract signed with Sustainable India Finance Facility on June 2.
