Here Are Four Major Highlights Of The BMC’s Budget And Its Swachh Agenda:
- Mumbai was declared Open Defecation Free (ODF) in July 2017 but still cases of open defecation continue, especially in slum areas. To eliminate open defecation and provide enough toilets in the city, the BMC has allocated ₹104.47 crore in the Budget. It has been divided into two parts. The first part will be allocated for construction of toilets in slum areas.
The second of the allocated amount will used to supply proper water and electricity in BMC toilets as the Budget acknowledged the poor condition of the public toilets, constructed and maintained by the BMC. - As citizens including beach warriors Afroz Shah and Chinu Kwatra in Mumbai have already committed themselves to clean the water bodies, the BMC has pulled up its socks by proposing ₹825.05 for beautification, rejuvenation and managing the sewage problem faced by rivers like Mithi, Dahisar, Poisar and Oshiwara.

- Finally, to improve the clean air and green cover of Mumbai, ₹277.29 crores have been given to the garden department to provide maximum open spaces to citizens and maintain the existing greenery.
