New Delhi: With just a few days left for the World Environment Day, which is celebrated on June 5, every year, Bollywood actors have taken upon themselves to create awareness about protecting our mother nature and why each one of us should learn to co-exist. Actor Bhumi Pednekar was the first one to initiate #OneWishForTheEarth on her social media, wherein she asked her friends, peers from the industry and her fans to join her and help make more and more people aware on the importance of protecting our environment.
Posting a two-and-half minute-long video she said,
I want to ask you all – what is your one wish for the earth or our planet? Through my experience, I have realised that people still don’t know the problem of climate change. But it is such a huge problem that we all can’t comprehend it. Climate change is going to affect every living being on this planet. It will not favour you because you are rich; you cannot buy your way out of climate change calamities. No amount of technology can reverse the damage done to mother nature. Our planet is heating up, our water bodies are drying, our snowcaps are melting. There is famine, floods, diseases and droughts. We are killing our biodiversity and frequency of such calamities will only going to increase in the near future. Our climatic system will go on a war with us for many centuries until it destroys us completely if we don’t things change things today.
Bhumi Pednekar immediately got the support of her fellow actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Anushka Sharma and Karan Johar. Sharing #OneWishForTheEarth, Amitabh Bachchan said,
Climate Change is upon us, is real. Stand up, do your bit to protect Mother Nature. On World Environment Day, my #OneWishForTheEarth pledge to be climate-conscious, create awareness within families & communities. Every minute counts, be a #ClimateWarrior.

Sharing a video message and her #OneWishForTheEarth ahead of World Environment Day, actor Anushka Sharma said,
This World Environment Day, my #OneWishForTheEarth would be that all of us should treat all the plant and animals species with kindness and equality! Let’s all aim to be #ClimateWarriors.
In the video message, the actor urged people to treat the plants and animal species – as just as significant a part of nature – as the human species. She adds,
I wish that we would not treat them as a means to an end, because at the end of the day… we are all one.
Actor Akshay Kumar also came in support of Bhumi Pednekar’s initiative and said that the beautiful planet that has sustained us till now needs our support. He added,
During this time, we as a community must act immediately. A lot of damage has been done and climate change is a grave reality that all of us are facing. My #OneWishForTheEarth is that we all work towards rebuilding mother nature with a simple act of planting more and more trees. We all need to do our bit to heal and rebuild the only planet we have, so join me and become a climate warrior.

Karan Johar also took to Instagram to support the cause, sharing a video message, he talked about the need of water conservation and preservation of water resources and said that the power of water is being misused for years now and it is time we take control of it. He added,
Water is the driving force of all nature – Leonardo Da Vinci. My #OneWishForTheEarth this World Environment Day is for us to conserve water and preserve water resources. This is something I have been practising for a while now and have been teaching my children to do too. Water is one of the most critical things in life, and we must be careful with how we use it. It’s time to shut your taps and open your minds and make sure you conserve water. Remember earth is our home, and eventually, we all want to protect our home.
World Environment Day is celebrated every year on June 5 and was founded by the United Nations to encourage ‘worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment’. First held in 1974, the day raises awareness about emerging environmental issues that are plaguing our Earth – marine pollution, human overpopulation, global warming, sustainable consumption or pandemics like coronavirus.
Each year, World Environment Day is celebrated with a unique theme and the theme for this year is “Celebrate Biodiversity”.
