Follow Basic Guidelines To Prevent Coronavirus Spread: Cricket Legend Sachin Tendulkar Urges People To Stay Safe

New Delhi: With the rapid spread of coronavirus across the world people are being advised to stay indoors and practice social distancing and hygiene as a preventive measure and response. In the wake of the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, former batsman and cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, on Wednesday, took to Twitter where he requested everyone via video to act responsibly and follow basic guidelines to contain the spread of COVID-19 and keep the virus at bay. The Master Blaster tweeted,

As citizens, we have to act responsibly. We could follow simple steps to keep the coronavirus at bay. It is my request to everyone to follow basic guidelines to try our best to ensure we all stay safe. #IndiaFightCorona

In the video shared by Mr. Tendulkar, he is requesting people to avoid going to crowded places and social functions. He further adds,

If you find out that a person is not keeping well – is suffering fro fever, cough – then please maintain a distance from that person. If you feel ill, have fever of suffer shortness of breath, then please visit to the nearest doctor immediately or seek medical help at the helpline number 1075.

He further requested his follower to focus on hand hygiene and wash hands properly and suggested people to not panic and ignore unproven claims and myths.

Mr. Tendulkar also took the World Health Organization’s (WHO) ‘Safe Hands Challenge’ on Tuesday and posted a video of him washing hands to spread the awareness and importance of maintaining basic hygiene. He urged people to never forget to wash their hands for 20 seconds with soap.

In another video shared by him earlier, he explains the correct technique of handwashing. He said,

As we hope and pray for the #CoronaVirus to be contained, the simplest action we can take to protect everyone is to wash our hands regularly and properly.

Earlier, cricketers Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina and Virat Kohli had also expressed concerns over the spread of coronavirus. In a video posted by Mr. Sharma on his twitter handle, he said,

Last few weeks have been tough for all of us and the world has come to a standstill, which is very sad to see. The only way we can come to normalcy is by coming together. And we can do this by being a little smart, a little proactive, knowing our surroundings and as and when we get any symptoms inform your nearest medical authorities.

Suresh Raina tweeted,

It’s very important that we understand the need of social isolation to break the chain, don’t spread information from unreliable sources, don’t ignore the health advisories & for sure follow the hygiene measures.#coronavirus

Mr. Kohli also urged his followers to stay strong and fight the COVID-19 outbreak by taking all precautionary measures.

The novel coronavirus disease was first detected in Wuhan, China’s Hubei province, in late December 2019, and has since spread worldwide. The death toll from coronavirus worldwide has reached 7,426 with the number of people infected with COVID-19 increased to 1,79,111 as on March 17, as per WHO. In India, as of now, there are 130 active cases of coronavirus and three lives have been lost.
