New Delhi: New mother Neha Dhupia, who welcomed her first child – a baby girl – in November last year, spoke about the importance of breastfeeding at the 12-hour Swasthagraha by NDTV and Dettol’s Banega Swasth India campaign this morning.
The actress and talk show host highlighted the link between health and cleanliness when she said:
Nutrition is very important when a woman is pregnant. Feeding the child in a hygienic environment is so emotionally important not just for the child but also for the mother.

She also spoke about the need for a change in policy. “Change in policy is our call through the campaign ‘freedom to feed’,” she said.
We need more hygienic places for mums who are breastfeeding, said Ms Dhupia. Secondly we need to talk about providing nutrition for mothers and children… Nutrition, health, all these issues need to be addressed.
At the same time, the 39-year-old emphasised that the ‘freedom to feed’ is free of any sort of judgement. “A mother who is breastfeeding, bottle feeding or even formula feeding, – all you mums are amazing.
I have had the good fortune to donate breast milk,” Neha Dhupia revealed, adding that it’s a wonderful feeling. “You don’t know who it’s going to help and it’s so important. It’s always the early years, nutrition is so important.
NDTV and Dettol have been lending support to the Government of India’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan campaign since its inception in 2014. This year, we have moved the conversation from Swachh (cleanliness) to Swasth (health), to highlight how the two cannot exist in isolation.
