India Reports Over 100 New Coronavirus Cases, Reports Two Deaths

The active cases now comprise 0.01 per cent of the total infections and the national COVID-19 recovery rate has been recorded at 98.81 per cent

New Delhi: India has logged 169 new coronavirus infections, while the active cases have decreased to 2,555 from 2,687, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Friday (June 9). The death toll stood at 5,31,888, with two deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The Covid case tally was recorded at 4.49 crore (4,49,92,462) The active cases now comprise 0.01 per cent of the total infections and the national COVID-19 recovery rate has been recorded at 98.81 per cent, the union ministry said.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,44,58,019 and the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.18 per cent. According to the ministry’s website, 220.66 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.

MAHARASHTRA

Maharashtra recorded 24 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, which took the tally to 81,69,463, while the death toll stood unchanged at 1,48,553, a health official said. On Wednesday, the state had recorded 23 cases and one fatality, he pointed out.

The recovery count increased by 36 in the last 24 hours to touch 80,20,753, leaving the state with an active caseload of 157, he said. The recovery rate is 98.18 per cent, while 8,72,22,750 coronavirus tests have been conducted so far, including 5,506 in the last 24 hours.

A health department bulletin said, at present, the dominant variant of COVID-19 is Omicron XBB.1.16 and a total 1,685 cases were found of this variant. There were 19 deaths reported among these cases.

MUMBAI

Mumbai reported eight COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, which took the tally here to 11,63,851, while the death toll remained unchanged at 19,773, a civic official said. On Wednesday, the metropolis had witnessed nine COVID-19 cases and one death, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official added.

The recovery count increased by 14 and touched 11,44,029, leaving the city with an active caseload of 49, he said. So far, 1,88,82,074 coronavirus tests have been conducted, including 702 in the last 24 hours, as per BMC data.

The recovery rate is 98.3 per cent and overall growth rate of cases between June 1 and 7 is 0.0007 per cent.
