Mann Ki Baat: PM Modi Lauds Environmental Conservation Efforts, Including UP’s Plantation Drive
PM Modi highlighted the efforts of the people in demonstrating responsibility and awareness about the environment and health through art forms, plantation drives, and water conservation initiatives
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted the 103rd edition of his monthly radio programme, Mann Ki Baat, on Sunday (July 30), where he highlighted various efforts and progress made in environment conservation. He also spoke about the success of the ‘Amrit Sarovar’ mission, which was launched as a part of the celebration of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav last year on April 24, with the objective of developing and rejuvenating 75 water bodies in each district across the country. He commended the efforts of the people in demonstrating responsibility and awareness about the environment and health through art forms, plantation drives, and water conservation initiatives.

- In Madhya Pradesh, the tribals of Pakaria village in Shahdol have adopted water-conservation techniques for saving nature and water. They have converted about 100 wells into water recharge systems with the help of the local administration.
- The villagers have set a target of using about 800 such wells in the entire area for recharging water,” PM Modi added.
- PM Modi informed us that the work of building more than 50 thousand Amrit Sarovars is underway. “Our countrymen are making novel efforts for water conservation with full awareness and responsibility,” he added.
- Moving towards setting up a green feat, Uttar Pradesh set a record high for planting 30 crore trees in a single day. This was done last week as a part of state’s ‘Vriksharopan Jan Abhiyan 2023’. PM Modi said that such efforts are great examples of public participation as well as public awareness.
- Uttar Pradesh aims to plant 35 crore saplings, of which 30.21 crore were planted on July 22. Additionally, five crore more trees are planned to be planted on Independence Day.
- Emphasising the importance of making Yoga as an integral part of the daily routine, PM Modi quoted an example of a over a 100-year-old French woman, Charlotte Chopin, who is a Yoga Practitioner and Teacher. Ms Chopin has been practising yoga for the last 40 years and has given credit for her health and her age of 100 years only to Yoga.
- The PM also gave an example of serving nature through art, by mentioning Suresh Raghavan’s work, a native of Vadavalli in Tamil Nadu, who has been preserving information about plants and animals through his paintings. He documents the information related to them by making paintings of varied Flora and Fauna. Till now, he has painted dozens of such birds, animals, and orchids, which are on the verge of extinction.
PM Modi also highlighted the devastation faced by several people due to natural disasters like the Biparjoy cyclone, landslides, and flood-like situations in Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, and other areas. Amid the time of calamity, the collective efforts of the local people, administration, and NDRF jawans, came into play, as PM Modi highlighted.

It has now been described as a “code red for humanity.” The campaign will continue to cover issues likeair pollution,waste management,plastic ban,manual scavengingand sanitation workers andmenstrual hygiene. Banega Swasth India will also be taking forward the dream of Swasth Bharat, the campaign feels that only a Swachh or clean India wheretoiletsare used andopen defecation free (ODF)status achieved as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan launched byPrime Minister Narendra Modiin 2014, can eradicate diseases like diahorrea and the country can become a Swasth or healthy India.
