The Prime Minister said that if the citizens resolve, the country could make a huge contribution towards a clean mission.

Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday (February 26), praised Odisha’s Kamala Moharana for her efforts in turning discarded materials into goods that can be used. He praised the woman from Kendrapara district while sharing his thoughts in the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme.

Friends, waste to wealth is also an important dimension of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Kamala Moharana, a sister from Kendrapada district of Odisha, runs a self-help group (SHG). The women of this group make many things such as baskets and mobile stands from milk pouches and other plastic packing materials, the PM said.

The Prime Minister said that if the citizens resolve, the country could make a huge contribution towards a clean mission.

At least we should all take a pledge to replace plastic bags with cloth bags, he added.

Reacting to Modi mentioning her, Mohrana said she was delighted that the PM has recognised her work.

Prime Minister Modi was also all praise for the youth of Dulheri village in Haryana who are enthusiastically running a cleanliness campaign. According to a state government statement issued here, the Prime Minister said the enthusiasm and dedication shown by these youths have certainly changed the meaning of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar also listened to the radio broadcast in Karnal. According to the statement, encouraging the youth of this village, the Prime Minister said,

These youth have decided to make Bhiwani city a role model in terms of cleanliness. They formed an organization called Yuva Swachhata Evam Jan Seva Samiti. At 4 am, they reach Bhiwani and run cleanliness drives at different places in the city. Till now, these people have cleaned tons of garbage from different areas of the city, said PM Modi while lauding the efforts of these youth.

In the “Mann ki Baat” programme, Modi said people’s determination can make a huge contribution to the clean India campaign.

He also called upon the countrymen to take a pledge to replace plastic bags with cloth bags, according to the statement.

Three youths of Dulheri in Bhiwani district had taken the initiative to make the village clean three years ago, but now more than 60 youths have joined hands.

The imbalance has also led to immense biodiversity loss that has caused one of the biggest threats to human survival – climate change. It has now been described as a “code red for humanity.” The campaign will continue to cover issues like air pollutionwaste managementplastic banmanual scavenging and sanitation workers and menstrual hygiene. Banega Swasth India will also be taking forward the dream of Swasth Bharat, the campaign feels that only a Swachh or clean India where toilets are used and open defecation free (ODF) status achieved as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014, can eradicate diseases like diahorrea and the country can become a Swasth or healthy India.
