The next day, authorities had imposed curfew in the urban limits of Indore while lockdown was enforced elsewhere in the district. As of today (June 11), Indore has almost 4,000 (3922) cases with 163 people who succumbed to the pandemic causing infection. However, Union Minister of Health, Dr Harsh Vardhan took to Twitter on Tuesday (June 9) to share that Indore has been showing a promising recovery status. He said,

A health department official told NDTV that the number of new COVID-19 patients has come down recently as in the last 24 hours, 41 people tested positive for the viral infection in Indore. Furthermore, he said that the recovery rate has further improved in the last two days. He said,

Till now, 2,618 people have been discharged after recovery from the coronavirus in Indore. An analysis of the latest data showed the recovery rate in Indore was 66.75 per cent as on Thursday morning (June 11).

A doctor from the government COVID hospital, on the condition of anonymity told NDTV,

While the condition seemed to be getting out of hand at first, as the city saw a sudden spike in the number of COVID cases, it seems like the situation is getting under control. The number of cases being reported daily are coming down and the recovery cases have shown a significant improvement. I hope it remains that way and further improves. We can credit this success to the authorities and the people for staying under the lockdown for an extended period as it is definitely one of the major factors in the reduction of cases. On the other hand, healthcare workers’ determined efforts are invaluable. My team is on the clock for about 13 hours every day and dedicated towards the win for Indore against COVID-19. Now that we can see some flattening of the curve on the number of cases, I would like to see a reduction in the death rate of the city. That is out next focus.

The health department official shared that the COVID-19 mortality rate in Indore stood at 4.16 per cent, which is higher than the national average of 2.83 per cent.

Indore, which is the worst-hit district of Madhya Pradesh in terms of the COVID-19 cases, is also the cleanest city of India, as the city also claims to boast of its status of 100 per cent waste management and being a no landfill city. Shaan took to his social media handles to share the COVID-19 anthem for the city, titled ‘Jeetega Indore’ or Indore will win.
