To sensitise farmers about compost and waste management, the National Centre of Organic Farming (NCOF) developed a cost-effective Waste Decomposer technique which helps in keeping the villages clean. It also helps in converting animal dung and bio-waste into good quality organic manure. Under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY), the state governments will be given Rs 12.5 crore to install the compost and waste management plants during 2017-18.

To promote this technique the government had advertised it in several regional newspapers and also conducted classes in 142 Agricultural Mandis demonstrating the working of the machine. A Swachhta Edition of “Deewar” magazine consisting of Swachhta articles, columns, slogans, poems etc was also distributed in the farmer community.

Further, awareness programmes were also organized amongst the farmers regarding safe use of chemical pesticides and the disposal of insecticides containers after use.

Swachhta Pakhwada was also observed in Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries (DADF) Headquarter and Institutes of the Department. 23 cleanliness drives were conducted in 20 fish markets of 11 states. A cleanliness rally and workshops on hygienic handling of fish were organised. Staffs of various fish breeding institutes and hospitals were given sanitation lessons on livestock management and biological disposal of wastes.

Under the Swachhta Action Plan for 2017-18, Rs 5.32 crore has been allocated to the department to construct vermi-compost units, biogas plants, wash water tanks etc

Several ministers from local, state and central level were part of the Swachhta Campaigns across 5,200 villages. From clean farming technologies, preparing bio-compost, waste water recycling to managing fishiries wast, the pakhwada witnesses an active participation from farmers and the village youth
