New Delhi: Union Minister Harsh Vardhan inaugurated a Green Waste Re-processor (GWR) machine invented by Clean India Ventures on November 28 at Nigambodh Ghat. GWR machine will convert flowers, leaves and other organic products used at Nigambodh Ghat into reusable religious offerings that is, ‘havan’ materials. In a series of tweet, Minister Harsh Vardhan declared the inauguration of GWR, how it will work, and the amount of money provided to set up the machine. He also tweeted about using the machine and said, it may be the beginning of good environment friendly practice.

“Under the #SwachhBharat Abhiyan, today I inaugurated a re-processor machine to convert the flowers/organic products used in temples at Nigambodh Ghat premise and neighbouring areas into “Havan” material”, the minister tweeted.

Nigambodh Ghat is most known for being the oldest ghat in Delhi for performing last rites (Antyesti/Antim Sankar). The waste generated during the last rites either end up polluting river Yamuna or add up to the existing waste. But now with the help of GWR machine, the waste will be turned into usable offerings.

“Nature and environment teaches us that nothing ends forever; whatever ends- comes back in a new form. All we need is the desire to attain it.”

With the idea of taking from nature and giving back to nature, GWR is a first of its kind at a crematorium in Delhi. In order to set up the GWR machinery and give it a green signal, the minister provided ₹12,76,974 fund through MPLADS (Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme) funds.

Not only this, the battery vehicle that is to be used for the collection of waste from the temples and Nigambodh Ghat premises was also inaugurated by the minister by taking  a ride in it.

Minister Vardhan also tweeted about how the waste re-processing machine will contribute to the government’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The minister hopes of replicating the waste re-processing technology in other cities of India as well.
