17 Year Old Repurposes Old Jeans To Provide Warmth To The Homeless

Nirvaan Somany, 17, repurposes discarded jeans into sleeping bags and distributes them among the poor, through his project Jeans - Blue To Green

Nirvaan Somany, a youngster from Delhi, proves that if you move forward with sincere intentions, you can support people in any manner within your capacity. The 17-year-old turns discarded jeans into sleeping bags for the homeless.

Known as Project Jeans - Blue To Green, Nirvaan started work on it in 2020. He spent the following two years working closely with local tailors to perfect the prototype. By 2022, the product was ready. Within the first few months, he had collected nearly 1,000 jeans and converted them into sleeping bags.

The social entrepreneur has, so far, rescued more than 9,000 pairs of jeans from the perils of landfills and reused an upwards of 100 million liters of water.

Nearly 2,000 sleeping bags across several cities in India, including Pune, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, and Kolkata, have been distributed so far.

Project Jeans has also reached out to the victims of the earthquake that took place in Turkey and Syria in 2023, through their embassies in Delhi.
