In Pictures: How India Celebrated International Yoga Day 2021

International Yoga Day is celebrated every year on June 21. The UN General Assembly in 2014 overwhelmingly adopted a draft resolution, declaring June 21 officially a day when the world will mark Yoga Day. A record 177 countries supported the resolution. This year, the theme of 7th International Yoga Day is "Yoga for Well-Being" that highlights the importance of practicing yoga and how can it promote the holistic health of every individual.

In India, PM Narendra Modi led the celebrations on Monday as he addressed the nation and said that yoga has become a source of inner strength among people amid the novel coronavirus pandemic and inculcated faith in them that they could fight the virus. PM Modi also said that India, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), will launch the M-Yoga application, which will have many videos of yoga training based on Common Yoga Protocol available in different languages of the world.

President Ram Nath Kovind marked the 7th International Yoga Day celebration as he performs yoga at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu was also seen marking the Yoga Day celebrations in Delhi with his wife. He said, 'My greetings to all Indians on the occasion of the International Yoga Day. I appeal to people to make Yoga a part of their daily life.'

Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan performs Yoga at Maharaja Agrasen Park. Speaking to media on the occasion of International Yoga Day, he said, 'Relevance of Yoga has increased during #COVID19. Yoga has helped us to maintain our physical & mental health. We should make Yoga or other physical activities a part of our daily life. These will help us to increase our immunity against coronavirus.'

At Aguada Fort, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant marked the occasion of International Yoga Day as he performed Yoga.

In Maharashtra, Union Culture Ministry & Tourism Ministry organized International Yoga Day celebrations under the 'Yoga is an Indian Heritage' theme at Kanheri Caves in Mumbai.

Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel performs yoga at his residence in Raipur to mark the occasion of International Yoga Day in India.

Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and state Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar were also seen performing Yoga in Bengaluru on International Yoga Day.
