World Environment Day 2020: Bollywood Celebrities Share Their #OneWishForTheEarth

World Environment Day is the United Nations' flagship day for promoting worldwide awareness and action for the environment. Every year the world joins hands and celebrates the day on June 5 with a unique theme, calling for joint efforts to protect the environment. The theme for World Environment Day 2020 is ?biodiversity' and Colombia in partnership with Germany will host the day this year.

In order to create awareness about the need to protect the mother Earth, ahead of the World Environment Day, actor Bhumi Pednekar has started the initiative #OneWishForTheEarth. As part of this, she has asked her friends, peers from the industry and her fans to share their wish for planet Earth. Here is how Bollywood celebrities have joined the cause for the environment.

Actor Bhumi Pednekar Urges To Co-exist With Nature

With #OneWishForTheEarth, the actor hopes that every individual realises that climate change is real, start creating awareness about it and change their way. She wishes that we humans learn to co-exist with mother nature and realise that this is not our planet alone.

Actor Amitabh Bachchan Calls To Be Climate Conscious

Actor Amitabh Bachchan was the first one to join Bhumi Pednekar's initiative and share his one wish for the earth. The actor called to protect mother nature by being more climate conscious and asked to create awareness within families and communities.

Treat All Plant And Animals Species With Kindness And Equality, Says Anushka Sharma

Sharing her one wish for the Earth, actor Anushka Sharma urged to treat plants and animal species as just as significant a part of nature as the human species. In a video message, calling herself a climate warrior, the actor said, 'I wish that we would not treat them as a means to an end, because at the end of the day we are all one.'

Rebuild Nature By Planting Trees: Akshay Kumar

Highlighting the grave reality of climate change, actor Akshay Kumar said that the beautiful planet that has sustained us now needs us to protect it. Sharing his #OneWishForTheEarth that is working towards rebuilding mother nature, the actor called for one of the most basic and efficient deeds - planting trees.

Ahead of World Environment Day, actor Dia Mirza who has been quite vocal about nature and Earth asked to recognise how deeply connected our lives, our health, our well being, our peace, our progress, and prosperity are with nature.

Ananya Panday Wishes To Save Endagered Species

Actor Ananya Panday wished to save endangered species which are on the verge of extinction. Ananya asked to recall the lessons of co-existence, kindness and compassion we learned in school and put it into action so as to live happily with diverse species.

Arjun Kapoor Asks To Curb The Use Of Plastic

Wishing for the Earth, actor Arjun Kapoor appealed to reduce the use of plastic on a day to day basis. The actor feels that knowingly or unknowingly we all have caused a lot of harm to the environment and it's time we make small changes.

Highlighting the plastic menace, the actor said that only 9 per cent of the plastic can be recycled which means the remaining 91 per cent will remain on the Earth. With this, he emphasised on being a climate warrior and making a change.

Sharing the step he has taken to reduce his plastic consumption and protect the environment, Arjun said that he has switched from using a plastic bottle to metal bottle.

At a time of a Coronavirus pandemic when one of the biggest defences against the virus is hand washing, the use of water has increased. Highlighting the same, actor Ayushmann Khurrana said, in the endeavour to keep ourselves safe, we should not forget about the bigger goal. Using masks, gloves, personal protective equipment (PPE) kits have become the new normal in a fight against the Novel Coronavirus. Though these protective gears are meant to safeguard us from the virus, their improper disposal can be hazardous.
