The Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) in collaboration with the search giant will be launching the ‘Toilet Locator’ next week.
Initially, the feature will be available to users in National Capital Region (NCR) before being rolled out in other cities.
So how will this App work?
Users can punch in search words like ‘toilet,’ ‘lavatory,’ ‘swachh,’ and ‘sulabh’ into Google, then a search is triggered through its database of 5000-6000 public toilets throws up the closest toilet. The result covers public restrooms that are located in metro stations, malls, petrol pumps, and hospitals, also included are the opening and closing timings of the toilets.
Users are invited to not just use the toilet but also rate it and give their feedback.
The Ministry of Urban Development conducted intensive surveys across Delhi to provide the latest, most updated information to Google, and will be closely monitoring the performance of each and every toilet on the ‘Toilet Locator’. If a particular toilet is rated badly for more than a month, the ministry will initiate action.
The feature is reportedly being piloted under Government of India‘s Swachhata Pakhwada, or Cleanliness Fortnight campaign which started from 16th November.
