Coronavirus Outbreak: Actor Dia Mirza Takes #SafeHandsChallenge, Hopes ‘Good Health And Surakshit Haath’ For Everyone

New Delhi: Actor and Goodwill Ambassador UN Environment, Dia Mirza has become the latest celebrity to join the social media trend of #SafeHandsChallenge. Amid the concerns of novel coronavirus across the globe, on March 13, World Health Organisation (WHO), which has earlier declared COVID-19 as a pandemic, launched the ‘Safe Hands Challenge’. The challenge involves washing hands thoroughly with soap or using alcohol-based sanitiser and posting a video of the same while nominating three more people to join in.

Actor Dia Mirza on Thursday evening joined this healthy trend and posted a short video of herself washing hands. In the video, she is also seen singing ‘sabke ho surakshit haath‘ (Everyone should have clean hands). The actor posted the video along with a message on Twitter and said,

May we all help each other to keep our families, colleagues, friends and ourselves healthy. #COVID19..सबके हो सुरक्षित हाथ #SafeHandsChallenge

Dia Mirza was nominated by Inger Andersen, Executive Director, United Nations Environment Programme, to take the Safe Hands Challenge. Thanking her for the nomination, Dia Mirza added,

Apart from the challenge, Dia Mirza also welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s idea of ‘Janta Curfew’ on March 22, Sunday, which he announced in his 29-minute address on March 19. She said,

Wholeheartedly welcome the Prime Minister’s idea of a #JanataCurfew. These are extraordinary times and it requires our united response to this pandemic. And yes, a BIG salute to the frontline health workers who are relentlessly fighting this virus for us ???????????? #Covid19.

A Look At Safe Hands Challenge

Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organisation, kick-started this challenge on social media by posting a two-minute long video in which he is seen giving a lesson on how to have clean and safe hands. Dr Tedros in his video message taught the right technique to wash hands in 11 steps. He also asked everyone to take this ‘Safe Hands Challenge’ and show the world the importance of keeping hands clean at this crucial time.

Many have already taken this challenge and showed their support for the cause – from actor Deepika Padukone, Anushka Sharma, Badminton player P. V. Sindhu, Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar to Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dr Harsh Vardhan, to name a few.

In Numbers: Coronavirus Outbreak

In India, there has been a sharp increase in the total number of coronavirus or COVID-19 cases. On March 20, the coronavirus-related cases crossed the 200-mark with nearly 30 fresh cases, according to the Ministry of Family and Health Welfare. Four people from Delhi, Karnataka, Punjab and Maharashtra have died in the last two weeks due to COVID-19.

Coronavirus originated late last year in a food market in the Chinese city of Wuhan and since then, worldwide, over 8,000 people have died due to this highly infectious virus and over 2 lakh people have been reported infected.
