New Delhi: Veteran Actor Shabana Azmi is lending a helping hand to over 10 lakh people who have been hit the worst by the nationwide lockdown imposed to curb the spread of COVID-19. She along with NGO ActionAid India and its partners who are working for marginalised communities is helping in the procurement of ration, cooked meals, and sanitation products for migrant workers and daily wage labourers across 172 districts in 21 states in the country. She shared with her followers on social media about how thankful she was to have gotten the opportunity to do a good deed in these tough times. Ms. Azmi shared on Twitter,

Star chef Vikas Khanna also tweeted to extend gratitude to the legendary actor. He informed in his tweet that over 200 quintals of dry ration was distributed to several orphanages and old age homes across 50 cities in the country with support from Ms. Azmi. Mr. Khanna has also been very active in reaching out to the needy and providing them with relief items.

Ms. Azmi who believes that art should be used as an instrument for social change is the President of Mijwan Welfare Society, an NGO working on girl child empowerment, that prepared 10,000 masks and distributed for free in various villages of Azamgarh along with foodgrains, oil and soap.

Ms. Azmi has been raising awareness on COVID-19 and has urged her fans and followers to pledge their support to the senior citizens and those in need. She had shared a video, in which she said that the roles have reversed and that she noticed a lot of young people taking care of the elders in their communities. She also encouraged others to “Be there for the elderly, without being around them.”
