New Delhi: Actor and United Nations Environment Goodwill Ambassador for India, Dia Mirza, ahead of World Environment Day, through a short video message, urges women to stop the use of regular plastic sanitary napkins and go for greener alternatives. ”I gave up the use of regular sanitary napkins when I realised they are made mostly of plastics,” said Dia Mirza. She further nominates actor Alia Bhatt, her husband Sahil Sangha and company Johnson and Johnson to take up the #BeatPlasticPollution challenge and give up the use of plastics in their life.

Dia Mirza talks about how nearly 45 billion feminine hygiene products are disposed off each year, which, when incinerated, release toxic fumes or simply end up in the landfills and even in the ocean – causing serious harm to the health of the environment. “Plastic is causing harm not only to our environment – it is affecting your health and my health too,” warned the actor.

She further says giving up plastic is quite simple – “I switched to a biodegradable option when I got to know that sanitary napkins are mostly made of plastics. You can do the same; just tag a friend, a loved one and a company to do the same,” said Dia Mirza.

Give names of the brands that are selling Biodegradable sanitary napkins. General comment won’t work.
