New Delhi: Actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar has released a coronavirus version of the famous poem ‘Zinda Ho Tum’ from his film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara to describe people’s lives in quarantine. He recited this modified version of the poem, which was originally written by his father, lyricist and screenwriter, Javed Akhtar, for his followers on Thursday via his Instagram account. Through the new version of the poem, Mr. Akhtar aims to deliver a message about staying safe during the pandemic. Here are a few lines from the poem he recited:
Chehron par apne mask pehen rahe ho toh zinda ho tum
Houseparty pe yaaron se baat kar rahe ho toh zinda ho tum
Chheenkon ke jhonkon se door rehna seekho
Bheedon mein shamil hone ko nahi kehna seekho
(If you are wearing a mask on you face, you are alive
If you are talking to your friends at Houseparty, you are alive
Learn to keep a distance from sneezes
Learn to say no to crowded places)

Earlier this month, when the reports of assaults on doctors and healthcare workers came to light, Mr. Akhtar shared the video of one of the doctors, who was the victim of an attack in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore on his Twitter account and urged people to let doctors do their jobs without fear. He said,
She is one of many doctors and medical professionals who are in the firing line of people’s misconceptions and misplaced rage. PLEASE let them do their jobs without fear of violence against them. They are here to help us get through this.
