Prime Minister Narendra Modi And More Political Leaders Kickstart The Poshan Month By Urging People To Lend Their Support
With the aim to make India ‘malnutrition-free’ by 2022, PM Narendra Modi among other political leaders have urged people to support the Poshan Abhiyan by actively participating in Nutrition Month activities
New Delhi: The central government kick-started the ‘Poshan Maah’ or Nutrition Month with Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging people to support the government’s holistic nutrition campaign on Sunday. Describing the ‘poshan maah’, to be observed throughout the month of September, as a commendable initiative to ensure a healthier future for women and children, he requested people from all walks of life to support the exceptional endeavour.

In his latest ‘Mann ki Baat’ radio address, PM Modi had noted that due to lack of awareness, both poor and affluent families are affected by malnutrition. The Prime Minister’s Overreaching Scheme for Holistic Nourishment – POSHAN Abhiyaan aims to address malnutrition with a targeted approach by 2022.
PM was also joined by several political leaders who took his message further on social media. The Poshan Abhiyan, directly led by the Union Minister for Women & Child Development Smriti Irani explained the focus of the campaign,

Home Minister Amit Shah called for the Poshan Abhiyan to become a ‘jan abhiyan’ (People’s campaign) as he launched the campaign in Gujarat’s Silvassa.

#PoshanMaah2019, is a commendable effort started by the Ministry of Women and Child Development. This effort reflects the priorities that the government has set for the creation of a new India. About Poshan Month:
September is being observed as the Poshan Month across the country, led by the Ministry of Women and Child Development minister Smriti Irani. As part of the Poshan Month, the government will be organising a wide range of activities focussing on five aspects of nutrition – first 1,000 days in the life of a child, fight against anaemia and diarrhea, personal hygiene and knowledge of what is nutritious. Last year, 23 lakhs activities across the country were recorded during the Poshan Month through which approximately 27 crore people were reached out, according to the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
