Swachh Survekshan 2020: After Getting Awarded As The Cleanest Cities Of India, Indore, Surat And Navi Mumbai Authorities Thank Their Citizens

Wishes and acknowledgement poured in, as the Swachh Survekshan 2020 declared Indore as the cleanest city for the fourth time in a row, followed by Gujarat’s Surat and Maharashtra’s Navi Mumbai

New Delhi: Indore aces the Swachh Survekshan 2020, yet again for the fourth consecutive year. Madhya Pradesh’s commercial capital has managed to retain its swachh crown in this year’s cleanliness survey, which was announced by  Union Minister of State in Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Hardeep Singh Puri, through video conferencing. In the same category, Gujarat’s Surat and Maharashtra’s Navi Mumbai bagged the second and third spots, respectively.

The Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Mr Puri congratulated Indore for their dedication. MoHUA tweeted,

Heartiest congratulations! Indore is India’s cleanest city 4th year in a row. The city & its people have shown exemplary dedication towards cleanliness.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan also credited the people of Indore for the achievement and said that the cleanliness is in their nature. He said,

Cleanliness is now the nature of #Indore. The city has now become a role model for the world in cleanliness. My heartiest congratulations to people of Indore, public representatives and municipal corporation for the dedication. It was the people of #Indore who made this achievement possible. Four times in a row the cleanest city of the country! We will progress together to fulfil the dream of a Prosperous MP with Swachh MP.

Congratulating the city on its fourth continuous win, Indore’s Mayor Malini Gaur also took to Twitter to congratulate the citizens of Indore.

Congratulations and thanks to the people of Indore; we put a cleanliness check! Indore has become number 1 in Swachh Survekshan 2020, once again.

Meanwhile, Surat and Navi Mumbai also received praise and congratulations for their achievements.

Member of Parliament from Surat, Darshana Jardosh tweeted,

A proud day for our city Surat on being announced as India’s 2nd cleanest city in the Swachh Survekshan 2020. Congratulations to the Surat Municipal Corporation and all the people of Surat for this excellent performance. We will strive our best to reach the top next time!

Gujarat Chief Minister, Vijay Rupani said that cleanliness is on their top priority. He tweeted,

Thank you! It’s Gandhi Ji’s and Narendra Modiji’s Gujarat, where cleanliness is on top priority. Its result of Political Will, Administrative Skill and people’s participation. Congratulations to Citizens and Municipal Authorities of Surat.

Navi Mumbai at the event received appreciation for their various cleanliness initiatives, as it was announced as the third cleanest city of the country. City’s Commissioner, Abhijit Bangar, on twitter, announced their aim to be the cleanest city in India. He tweeted,

Navi Mumbai declared the third cleanest city in India in Swachh Survekshan 2020! This has been possible due to the efforts and active participation of Navi Mumbaikars. Now it’s time to pledge to the highest standards of sanitation and aim to be the cleanest city in India.

Mr Puri lauded the Swachh Survekshan for giving the cities the opportunity to reaffirm their promises for Clean and Garbage Free ‘New India’. He tweeted,

Once again, Swachh Survekshan gave cities the opportunity to reaffirm the promise for a Clean and Garbage Free ‘New India’. Cities, in turn, competing with not only each other but themselves as well.

NDTV – Dettol Banega Swasth India campaign is an extension of the five-year-old Banega Swachh India initiative helmed by Campaign Ambassador Amitabh Bachchan. It aims to spread awareness about critical health issues facing the country. In wake of the current COVID-19 pandemic, the need for WASH (WaterSanitation and Hygiene) is reaffirmed as handwashing is one of the ways to prevent Coronavirus infection and other diseases. The campaign highlights the importance of nutrition and healthcare for women and children to prevent maternal and child mortality, fight malnutrition, stunting, wasting, anaemia and disease prevention through vaccines. Importance of programmes like Public Distribution System (PDS), Mid-day Meal Scheme, POSHAN Abhiyan and the role of Aganwadis and ASHA workers are also covered. Only a Swachh or clean India where toilets are used and open defecation free (ODF) status achieved as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014, can eradicate diseases like diahorrea and become a Swasth or healthy India. The campaign will continue to cover issues like air pollutionwaste managementplastic banmanual scavenging and sanitation workers and menstrual hygiene
