To Help With The Shortage Of COVID-19 Beds In The Capital, Delhi’s Taj Mansingh Hotel Is Now A Five-Star Coronavirus Quarantine Facility

As per the government order, the Taj Man Singh hotel will have the responsibility of providing rooms and food to the COVID-19 patients and will also be in charge of the housekeeping duties

New Delhi: As Delhi continues to fight the spike in COVID-19 cases in the city, the Delhi government has ordered the Taj Man Singh Hotel to isolate all its rooms and place them at the disposal of the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. The order issued by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate Chanakyapuri, Piyush Rohankar, stated that the government had decided to requisition rooms in various hotels of Delhi and link them to the nearest hospital to accommodate more COVID-19 patients in the national capital.

As per the administration order, the hotel will have the responsibility of providing rooms and food to the patients and will also be in charge of the housekeeping duties. Furthermore, the hospital will compensate for the shortage of staff in the hotel and will be in charge of treatment and providing ambulance services.

According to the government order, this will be a paid quarantine facility, and a room in the five-star hotel will cost Rs 5,000 a day. Besides, a maximum of Rs 5,000 a day can be charged for additional medical services that the COVID patient may require, which will be all-inclusive except for oxygen cylinders with will cost another Rs 2,000 a day.

The patients will pay Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, for the room and medical services which will then reimburse the hotel.

The Taj Mansingh staff will be provided with protective gear and basic training. Hospital’s doctors, nurses and other paramedical staff can stay in the hotel too, but the hospital will have to bear the cost of their accommodation, the Delhi government has said.

The Delhi government has attached a total of 40 hotels to different hospitals, which has helped increase the number of isolation beds in the city by 4,000.

These include other premium hotels like The Surya Hotel and Crowne Plaza, which have also been drawn into COVID-19 duty.

Similar to how Hotel Taj Mansingh is in partnership with Sir Gangaram Hospital, New Friends Colony’s The Surya hotel will be provided to Holy Family Hospital and Crowne Plaza hotel is handed over to Batra Hospital.

Owing to the high number of cases in the national capital, there was an acute shortage of isolation beds for COVID-19 patients in Delhi. Therefore, the Delhi government started procuring various establishments and hotels to develop quarantine facilities. Other than these hotels, Radha Soami Spiritual Centre in South Delhi has also been converted into a COVID Care facility with about 10,000 beds.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also provided 500 railway coaches to address the shortage of beds in Delhi. Fifty of these coaches have already been provided, stationed at east Delhi’s Anand Vihar railway station.

The Delhi government has said time and again that they are expecting to have about 5.5 lakh coronavirus cases by the end of July and by then, Delhi will need 80,000 beds, and so they continue to find opportunities to increase the isolation capacity of the city.
