The Delhi High Court has put on hold a controversial project that required the cutting of 16,500 trees in the national capital. The trees were to be cut to make way for houses for government officers and a commercial complex. The court on Monday asked whether Delhi can really afford to do this. While the high court's intervention came as a relief, the movement was really driven by the people of the city. Delhi's Chipko Movement has succeeded for now.
