Diwali Crackers 8-10 PM Only: Top Court’s Balancing Act Enough To Clean Our Air?

Published On: October 23, 2018 | Duration: 19 MIN, 43 SEC
The Supreme Court's decision on firecrackers today, at first glance, seemed a careful balancing act between the right to livelihood and the right to breathe. Not a total ban on crackers but set timings - just two hours from 8 pm to 10 pm during which crackers can be burst across the country. But the court has also stipulated that only low emission firecrackers can be sold which are currently not even available on the market. The court also said that only those with licenses can sell firecrackers and no online sites can sell them. Are the court's restrictions going to cause even more confusion? There are some who fear they will be unimplementable and that it will be back to square one. So should people still be looking at voluntarily giving up bursting crackers?
