How Aarogyadoots – The Ambassador Of Health Brought Down Infant Mortality Rate In Rural Gadchiroli

Published On: April 16, 2022 | Duration: 2 MIN, 25 SEC
The world loses more than 40% of under-five children to infant and neonatal mortality. But a simple and innovative model of Home-based Newborn Care, that is now being widely replicated globally, is changing all that. At the heart of this model are the aarogyadoots or ambassadors of health. These 39 women, one from each village, have been trained in essential newborn care. This approach, which draws also from community practices, has brought down the infant mortality rate in rural Gadchiroli from 121 deaths per 1000 live births to 30.
