India has the maximum number of malnourished children in the world where 1 in every 3 children are malnourished, according to UNICEF. The situation is extremely critical because the effects of malnourishment are irreversible if they occur at a young age. Stunting affected 35 per cent of children under the age of five and wasting affected 17 per cent. 33 per cent of children are underweight while every second child is in India is anaemic.
