India has made significant gains in health indices since its independence - from the eradication of polio, smallpox and other vaccine-preventable diseases to an improvement in the area of maternal and child health, because of antenatal care, immunisation of pregnant women, institutional deliveries, and the care of the newborn after birth. But what is needed is to assess our strengths and weaknesses. For a truly healthy and prosperous India, the centre and state must work in a team to further improve the health indices of the country. One is increasing public spending on health but there is also the need to augment the health infrastructure at various levels, through public-private partnership while taking citizens along. At the NDTV-Dettol Banega Swasth India's Swasth Bharat, Sampann Bharat telethon, experts discuss the stark disparities in health infrastructure between urban and rural areas and the areas that need our focus to make India a healthy nation. Tune in to the discussion.
