World Environment Day 2018: Sudarsan Pattnaik Creates Sand Art To Spread The Message Of #BeatPlasticPollution

New Delhi: Every year, thousands and thousands of turtles, whales, and fish die due to plastic pollution. Showcasing this grim reality, internationally acclaimed and Padma Awardee, Sand Artist Sudarsan Pattnaik, created a sand sculpture at World Environment Day 2018 event in New Delhi with a message – Beat Plastic Pollution, which is also the theme of 45th World Environment Day celebrations in India.

The art showcases the unfortunate plight of the marine animals that die each year from ocean pollution as they mistake plastics and other garbage as food. Sharing the glimpses of the art with netizens through his social media, Sudarsan Pattnaik said,

This is not the first sand art, Sudarsan Pattnaik has created for World Environment Day celebrations, on World Turtle Day, Sudarsan Pattnaik created a sand art at Puri beach in Odisha with a message – Beat Plastic Pollution.

Before Turtle Day, Sudarsan Pattnaik took social media by storm on Earth Day when he created an artwork that showed a crocodile with a plastic bottle in its mouth with a message – Stop Pollution, Save Earth.

Sudarsan’s constant efforts to spread the message on marine litter and ocean pollution have also got a thumbs up from UN Environment.
Along with plastic pollution, Mr Pattnaik is also well-known for creating innumerable sand arts revolving around the theme of cleanliness, sanitation and garbage crisis.
