Actor Dia Mirza Appeals To People To Participate In World Environment Day Celebrations By Ditching Plastic

New Delhi: With an appeal to beat plastic pollution and make World Environment Day celebrations on June 5 in India a huge success, actor and United Nations Environment Goodwill Ambassador, Dia Mirza through a video message said, ‘It is a matter of great pride that this time India is hosting the 45th World Environment Day. What it means to be a host of the world environment day is to find a collective participation and a commitment from each one of us to become agents of change to protect the environment.”

Explaining about the theme of World Environment Day 2018 and how each one of us can contribute, Dia added,

The theme of this years’ world environment day is Beat Plastic Pollution – as we all know that plastic is a non-biodegradable substance, most of the plastic items can last in the environment for upto 500 years. And plastic pollution is the huge-huge problem. Many of us in our everyday lives use plastic unthinkably. We can change that. This year’s theme will only be a success if each one of us can find ways to implement active lifestyle choices and make a difference in the everyday life.

Dia Mirza signs off with a message – If you can’t reuse plastic, refuse it!

“So, if you want the world to be a healthier place and if you want World Environment Day to be a true celebration of participation and mobilisation of people’s actions, then start with refusing plastic.”

From quite awhile, Dia Mirza has been vocal about plastic pollution and has done her bit for the environment – she has shunned usage of plastic from her life and recently at IIFA press conference in Delhi, taking a step further, she convinced her friends in the film fraternity – Karan Johar, Shahid Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor and Kartik Aaryan, to give up the use of plastic bottles. The actor feels that this move by her friends will help in influencing and inspiring millions of followers that these stars have.
